Arman showed me how to use grep -i maxclient /var/log/httpd/error_log to see if custs are maxing out on their server(s) and cat /proc/user_beancounters to see what errors or areas of trouble is on the server - In at least one case the cust reported success!
I copied the source from the Movable type into GoLive, added some links, and promply got errors rebuilding the blog. Pasted the link <a href="http://mydv.thejetstir.com">mydv.thejetstir.com</a> in a few different places using GoLive source edit function, still no improvement. Finally i just pasted the link directy into the source. *NO goLive* and Movable type rebuilt the page OK ! w00t
Dain found that the tar'd file had an extra directory that then installed the various files in the wrong place.
After removing the previously uploaded files, fixing the tar file, and re-installing, finally StyleCatcher is working.
Some of the themes, however are not putting the links for adding comments off to the side at the top but at the bottom of the page instead. - investigating...
downloaded and attempted to install StyleCatcher -- docs were not clear about installing the downloaded directories, mention made only of files.. I uploaded some of the files to the wrong location and got 500 server errors when attempting to access the plugin.
so i uploaded again and I think I have the files where they need to be, but now have the files i uploaded originally up there as well.
now there are 2 links to Style Catcher, the 2nd one no longer gives me 500 server errors but tells me to configure the plugin. I added the 'themes' directory in the html directory and set to 777, and also set the path to the themes directory in the plugin config page, but still am getting a msg that the plugin needs to be configured. :(
I'll pick it up again tomorrow when i'm ready for more adventure!! haha
turned on PowerMode- then adjusted full server path to chrooted environment
Ok it's not really raining, but I thought that sounded cool.
Ryan A. had me upgrade the mySQL on my dv server, so I went through the KB doc here:
http://kbase.mediatemple.net/internal/search.php?submit=Go&query=mysql
I also did Example 1. of the mod rewrite activity detailed here: http://kb.mediatemple.net/display/2n/articleDirect/index.asp?aid=10141&r=0.6166345
Tested OK.
Sat with Dain, and reviewed DNS, (mt)MediaTemple product lineup, and reviewed Account Center, Web Control Panel and Plesk as relating to (ss) shared server products vs (dv) dedicated virtual products.
I used vi to create a mail form and thank you page using formmail.pl.
The form can be found here.
Try it!
Arman assisted w/ a few DNS tix - I've picked up a few more on my own.. I have ?'s about deleting zones to be asked...
checked out the index page found here:
/home/thejetstir/html/archives/2006/04
will vi into that file and update title and see if it changes back after publishing from MT this time...
oops, that's not the page i'm looking for.. still looking for the file to modify to update the Title of this blog page
--
ok checked out the documentation and then the template for index.html, found that the title is pulled from the MTBlogName.. < title><$MTBlogName encode_html="1"$>
so it looks like other tags can be added, but to change the Title, I would need to some how rename the blog, or start up a new one
but was unsuccessful. :(
so for some command line practice,
vi'd into index.html and made some changes to page Title, testing now to see if that's overwritten by Movable Type when posting.
ok the entire page was rewritten, therefore any custom changes to the page will need to be done within Moveable Type

worked on tickets w/ Arman - got familiar with snips and more detail in hostops
I'm reviewing active and resolved tickets to get familiar with typical issues
I downloaded and installed Putty and Thunderbird. Arman showed me how to enable the (ss) test site for SSH access. Tested Guestbook OK @ http://thejetstir.com/sample_guestbook/sample_guestbook.html.
After getting an error when browsing to thejetstir.com/moveabletype and attempting to log on, I then followed the instructions on the Movable Type email and and was able to successfully install Movable Type. *imagine that*
This blog will cronicle my activities and discoveries as I go about setting up my site and exploring the available hosting features on my (ss) test account.
I created a relative link on the home page to "weblog/" but after saving changes, now I get "403 Forbidden" when attempting to browse to www.thejetstir.com/weblog
